More about our camp:
OPMAD will run a summer enrichment program at a south Hartford school chosen by Hartford Public Schools in partnership with the Hartford Public Schools morning “Early Start” summer program. This is the 20th year that OPMAD has offered summer programs. OPMAD will recruit 200 children from Kindergarten through 8th grade. This partnership between the school system and OPMAD will benefit Hartford children by providing academic remediation in the morning through Hartford Public Schools and enrichment activities that create a love for learning and encourage full day attendance through OPMAD in the afternoon. A full day program from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. will be offered to children who are not required to attend “Early Start”. Hartford parents benefit from an all day program for their children.
Hartford Public School teachers will conduct a 4 week summer “Early Start” program from 9:00 until 11:30, Monday through Friday. OPMAD will provide a comprehensive enrichment program in the afternoon from 11:30 to 5:00 as an incentive for students to attend the morning academic program and to accommodate parent’s work schedules. The program will offer Literacy, math, science, art, sports and life skills as components of the overall program.
2020 Theme overview: “Our Changing Planet” Children will learn about endangered species, weather, climate change and the effects of climate change, plus what we can do to help the planet. The children will collect information and share it with their families. The older children will research recent climate events and people who are drawing attention to this issue. How can their community and family help?
The children will produce artwork, stories, and skits.
